Burns Night Thursday 28th January At the U.K.C.A. Club
This was the first time we had held Burns Night at the UKCA club. A Piper, in wonderful uniform, worked hard making sure everyone had a traditional welcome at the door. The traditional fare was generous in amount and the whisky sauce worthy of a special mention, as was the Apple Crumble. The Toast to the Haggis by Norrie Grierson, was beautifully orchestrated and suitably enthusiastic and following the meal the excellent Immortal Memory, as supplied by Ken Hart.and Toasts to the Lassies by Keith Brown, and reply by Janine Scott were all educational and amuzing.
Interspersed with the toasts were Burns songs, sung by Bruce Hayes & John Pickard, with accompaniment by Arabella King. Finally the evening was rounded of by a little bit of dancing, organized by David Brazell, and general socializing that was enjoyed by all.

The Society’s Annual General Meeting, held on Tuesday 19th January 2010 went off well. Alison, our Chairman, has only been in position for a year, so did not require to be re-elected. Barbara was re-elected to the Committee as Secretary and David as a Committee member. Grace and Jenny had been co-opted during 2009 when posts became vacant, so they have now been elected into their positions, Jenny as Treasurer and Grace as a Committee member. The only other business of note was the abolition of joining and rejoing fees and reduction of the Annual Subscription to €15, both well received by members. |
