A Visit to the Orkneys
An evening of Orkney tales, history and happenings, with pictures - was promised and over 30 members and their friends attended.
Keith started off by showing a DVD of the Orkney Islands which gave everyone present an instant desire to visit the place, he then followed on by talking about his own particular passion - the famous Ring of Brodgar - and the other significant Neolithic remains. As he is lucky enough to be employed as a guide to the area his talk was full of first hand detail which conveyed his love of the place as well as its fascinating history. He also confirmed that unless one is hardy it is best to visit in the summer! Pictures of his home and the beauties of the area, as well as the archeological dig ensured that he will probably have some extra visitors this year.

Supper Dance
Yet again a wonderful evening of dancing, organized by David Bazell was held in Alison’s invaluable ‘events’ room. Despite a few people having to back out, nearly thirty people attended and two sets were up for nearly every dance. Almost every dance on the program was attempted, though some proved challenging to the participants great fun was had by all, and the non-dancers enjoyed the hilarity of the original variations even more than the perfect versions! The food, to which all contributed, was superb in both quality and amount; unfortunately, having eaten far too much most people didn’t dare dance another step and the evening finished following a spirited and slightly unwise rendering of Mairie’s Wedding!
A very successful evening all round.

A Tour of Edinburgh Castle— was accomplished without anyone leaving the island - from the comfort of a chair at Alison’s place we enjoyed a fascinating glimpse of, possibly, the most famous castle in the English speaking world. Alison’s introduction to the DVD was as interesting as the DVD itself and the selection of Cheese to tempt our taste buds afterwards was impressive, it is not surprising that the number of members and their guests attending these events are growing and all seemed to enjoy themselves. Well done to all involved for another successful event. See Photies for pictures
